Many of us are raised with limiting beliefs. We then develop more of them throughout our life. Over time these limiting beliefs can hold you back from doing what matters most to you, from leading the life you truly want.
It starts in childhood. Much of the advice initiating these limiting beliefs were probably sensible, well-meaning advice, intended to protect you. What they often created was limitations to the way we feel and think.
You can’t just blame your parents or those vindictive kids who bullied you at school. Friends, teachers, coaches and work colleagues may have criticised you or thumped your confidence while perhaps encouraging you to remain safe. There is also the massive advertising industry built on making you feel inadequate and fostering limiting self-beliefs. Advertisers will make you feel ugly to sell beauty products. They will make you feel afraid to sell insurance. They will make you feel trapped to buy a gigantic SUV that will climb over impressive looking mountains.
What keeps us bound by these limiting beliefs?
At the core of all limiting self-beliefs (which we all have) is an overwhelming human desire to feel safe and accepted. We often do what is required to fit in ahead of doing what we really want. We are rewarded for fitting in; we are taught that breaking free is risky or dangerous. Most of the time, we stay bound by the limitations because they help us feel physically, emotionally and mentally safe.
Most of us grow up being told to work hard, save as much as possible, be cautious then get the pension when you retire. Really??? Look around at those of us who have broken away from those limiting beliefs. Those who took the leap, often afraid of the result. These are those like Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Barak Obama, the Beatles, and the list continues filled with singers, songwriters, artists, actors and on it goes. Barbara Streisand was a perfect example with her mother telling her that her singing voice wasn’t good enough and she wasn’t pretty enough to be an actress. Her self belief positioned her as a world-wide entertaining phenomenon.
How many of us live with limiting beliefs?
Most of us carry limiting beliefs. These embedded beliefs shackle us on what we should be doing, how we should do it and the anguish of what will happen if we step outside. We worry how will we be seen, accepted, scrutinised?
We are filled with self-prophesising fears. Can we break these fears? Yes, we can – once we know-how.
Money Beliefs Limiting Our Success
One of the worst fears that hold us back is that of earning money. Many of us were told those with money are selfish, have earned it under questionable manner or just so lucky we could never be that lucky and how unfair it all is.
Did you know luck is a mindset and we can create or hinder this belief all by our self? Ever wonder why some people seem to excel, have luck, thrive and move forward while the rest of us seem stuck, unlucky and never get that great opportunity?
We often do it to our self.
Here are five tips to help you let go of those limiting beliefs:
1. Acknowledge what limiting beliefs are continuing to hinder your actions and behaviours. This itself may help release the grip of your limiting beliefs.
2. To get where you truly want to go, you need to pursue your dreams and create the opportunities bravely.
3. While limiting beliefs may not disappear overnight, taking action and adjusting your mindset can loosen its grip on you. You will recognise a limiting belief is showing up and when negative limiting beliefs are influencing your behaviour.
4. Your finite time on this earth is precious. Will you let your limiting beliefs steal your hopes, dreams and possible adventures or will you choose to indulge those limiting beliefs keeping you stuck?
5. Your mind has created these beliefs, by uncreating and retraining the way your mind thinks can result in fantastic opportunities.
The reason I am writing this is due to the emails and responses we have received from those making these self-belief changes. Some have used the Abolish Bad Habits to remove that dark or limiting part of their mind belief to free their mind and redevelop themselves as more confident and focused. Others have had a financial belief limitation and used the Wealth Creation session to move forward, embrace opportunity and enjoy great financial rewards and success. Some have needed to develop that Self-Confidence within enabling them to move forward self-assured.
It is up to you. Stop relying on others and create the opportunity yourself. Stop waiting for something to change because the change starts in you. This is your limiting belief and the reason you remain stuck and bound.
